The horrific heat and your furry friends...are they bored?

I find that the heat really affected my darling cat, Sylvester. It was too hot to let him on the deck in the midday and the evenings had high unsafe temps too.  He was allowed on the porch and the back deck first thing in the morning and until the temperatures rose to 80+.  I don't feel that pampering this 11 pound creature was too much motherly care. It just made sense to keep him cool since he spends most of his time in the A/C.

He continued to eat well and he did sleep well; however he seemed to pace and show signs of boredom during the very hot days. (I don't think that weather is completely gone although we are under 100 degrees for the past few days.) I am letting him out now as often as he wants to go.

Without rain and with the excruciating heat, the weather has been hard on humans and your precious furry little pets.  I might baby my baby, but he is some little creature with whom I decided to share my life!

Playtime is always great to schedule with your little friend and especially when the look of boredom can lead to overeating and discontentment. Keep a few new toys in reserve or give the kitty a large brown paper bag to run in and explore. A few minutes two or three times a day will give him the exercise he needs and give in to his natural instincts to explore and hunt (even if it is hunting in a brown paper bag.  Put a small treat of hard food in the bag for him to retrieve.)

You can find some great toys and treats for your kitty at www.drugstore.com. You don't even have to go out to the store in the heat because you can get free delivery with the order if you qualify.

Keep cool and healthy and this goes for your furry little guy as well!
