Nature's choices

Nature keeps the numbers under control.

This beautiful scene was in the tree next to my deck.  The excitement of having a clutch of robins hatching close to me seemed like a dream come true.  I watched the nest for many days and saw one robin replace the other on the nest taking turns to find nourishment for themselves and get a little exercise.

One day, I noticed no activity at the nest.  The next day the same and the next day more inactivity.

Too bad, Mother Nature had something different in mind.  Did a squirrel rob the eggs?  Probably so. Nature promotes the survival of the fittest... Life, any life, on life's terms requires acceptance.

Almost Dead Center is the Robins' Nest

All about unconditional love...

Sylvester was a little stray cat staring in the window looking at the tempting, plumb blue lovebirds in their cage in my study.  It was love at first sight for me.  Being a stray, he had to be caught and fixed and given some shots.  Four months after that first sight, he got to the Vet and began to live the life of a carefree little guy.  He weathered the winter months and the rain of spring before he was allowed to join the family inside.

That was four years ago and he was just over 1 year old.

He comes when he is called, he walks on a lead when we travel, and he sits on the front porch on a lead.  He had gotten into fights and sick from eating nasty stuff outside and now he is content with his pampered life and the heat in the winter and the A/C in the summer.

He is well travelled and deeply loved by all who meet him.  He started meowing about a year ago and now is quite verbal with us! What is not to love?

When I think of cruelty to animals, I am sickened by the thought that a human being could do those things to a helpless creature.

Looking divine when naked

Sometimes I wonder how Nature seems to come up with the best color combinations and designs.  Look at the smallest creatures and ask yourself, "How did this happen and why? Why don't I have time to create these details?"

It is my belief that when seeing these visual treats, they are  my rewards for humility and knowing my place in a glorious world.  If I can't take the time to smell the roses, what is worth my time?

I give myself time each day to meditate on what is rightfully my business and what I need to leave for Someone else to handle.  Looking at this little guy reminds me that it is this moment that counts. I can't create a butterfly, but I can enrich my life by looking at this divine creature who is not judgemental, vain or superficial.

All this is food for my soul...and I am hungry!
